Reasonably confirming the grinding allowance of CNC cylindrical grinders is of great significance for increasing labor productivity and ensuring machining quality. Generally speaking, grinding is a precision machining process, and compared with other cutting methods, its cutting efficiency is much lower. If the margin is too large, it will reduce productivity and increase the power consumption of the grinding wheel and machine tool.
In some cases, it can also reduce the quality of the parts, such as workpieces that have undergone surface nitriding and high-frequency heat treatment. The surface layer hardness is high, and the hardness decreases as it goes inward. If the margin before precision grinding is too large, the hardness of the surface layer after grinding will not meet the requirements. Of course, the margin cannot be set too small, otherwise the machining marks or defect layers left by the previous process cannot be ground off.
So the basic principle for confirming the grinding allowance of a CNC cylindrical grinder should be: on the premise of ensuring the quality of the surface layer of the workpiece after grinding, the smaller the grinding allowance, the better. Due to the complexity of factors affecting machining allowance, it is difficult to establish a unified scientific calculation method. When grinding the end faces of bearing rings, as both end faces need to be ground, attention should be paid to the distribution of the allowance on both end faces during the machining process to reasonably remove the grinding allowance on each end face.
